What is Pilgrimage?
Pilgrimage is a journey that many people take in their lifetimes to assist them focus upon their sense of spirituality. For Hindus, in particular devotees that follow the principles of Gaudiya Vaishnavism (devotees who follow the principles ordained by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu), pilgrimage is important and should be carried out if possible. For Gudiya Vaishnava devotees, pilgrimage helps them perform the five core acts of devotional service: associating with devotees, chanting the Holy Names, hearing the Bhagavatam, reside in Mathura.
A pilgrimage can help Hindus by connecting them with the Supreme. Through pilgrimage, they can show their belief in the supreme and gain a better understanding of an important holy site. It is also a way of meeting other Hindus who share their beliefs and trying to work towards achieving moksha.
Pilgrimage Sites
There a many pilgrimage sites for hindus, with almost all located in India. Here is a list of some of them:]
Nabadwip Dham - the birthplace of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the Sankirtan movement, and Gauidya Vaishnavism.
Jagannath Puri Dham - the 'abode' of the Lord of the Universe and the Avatar of Krishna, Lord Jagannath alonside his borther Balaram and Subhadra.
Mathura and Vrindavan Dham - considered to be the holiest of all pilgrimage sites in Gauidya Vaishnavism and the land where Lord Krishna was born and spent his pastimes on Earth.
